Feeling A Bit Hopeless With Misplaced Hope
I’m starting to feel a bit hopeless.
Covid is overwhelming. Politics are frustrating. People can be irritating and disappointing. And the world seems to be spinning frantically and falling apart.
Do you feel like me? Do you feel overwhelmed, hopeless, frustrated, irritated, and disappointed?
I feel hopeless because it seems:
- Covid will never end and certainly not be eradicated.
- Our country will never be the same.
- The anger I feel will never go away.
- Everything seems out of control.
- I will never feel the same about others.
- There will always be bitter political division.
- Politicians use Covid to their advantage.
- Evil abounds in our world.
- The government wants control of our personal lives.
- We will never get our freedoms back.
- Social distancing, masks, and vaccine arguments will persist.
But then I realize that if I feel hopeless, my hope is misplaced. My hope is in this world. And that’s the wrong place for it to be.
As a believer in Jesus Christ, our hope should not be in:
- Good health or the freedom from disease.
- The country in which we live.
- Our emotions and self-reliance.
- The actions of others.
- Politicians and civic leaders.
- Finding peace in this world.
- Freedom from the government or its authority.
- Social distancing, masks, and vaccines.
A believer’s hope should rest in Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ should be our hope because:
- He is the One who heals our disease. Psalm 103:3
- This country is not our home. Jesus is preparing a place for His people and will come back to get us. John 14:2, Hebrews 13:14
- We can’t trust our hearts, feelings, and emotions. Jesus is the Truth. Isaiah 40:8, Jeremiah 17:9
- People, family, and friends aren’t perfect and can disappoint us. Jesus will never disappoint or let us down. Psalm 62:8, Lamentations 3:23
- Politicians and leaders are sinners, like you and me, and can make sinful decisions, like you and me. Romans 3:23, Psalm 118:8-9, 1 Corinthians 2:5
- We will not find peace in this world. Jesus told us we would have trouble, but He will give us HIS peace and victory. John 14:27, John 16:33
- True freedom comes from knowing and trusting Jesus alone. John 8:36, Romans 8:2, John 8:32
- Only Jesus can save us and He holds all things together. Acts 4:12, Colossians 1:17
When we begin to feel hopeless, overwhelmed, frustrated, irritated, and disappointed, we should take our eyes off of this world with all its trouble and turn our attention to Jesus. He alone is our hope and salvation!

So true Robin. This world and people can disappoint us every day. We just have to pray for others to wake up to the truth of Jesus Christ and not to this WOKE culture. Thanks for sharing your heart.
This reflects so much of what I (am I’m sure a bazillion others) have been feeling. Thanks so much for sharing!
Spot on Robin!
God is in control!
