Day Twelve – Is It Something I Did?
Psalm 103:12 New International Version (NIV)
“as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.“
After my miscarriage, I asked the question, as many of us do, “Why?” I just didn’t understand why God would allow something like that in my life.
So often the why escapes our understanding. “Why me Lord? Why has this happened to me? Or my child? Or my husband? Why have you allowed this?” I’ve asked these questions during trials and troubles. I ask why and then I wonder, is God punishing me? Do I deserve this somehow? Is it something I did?
Often, we believe our troubles are caused by something we did; some sin from our past. We hold onto the guilt and shame of our sin and then we just KNOW when something bad happens, we caused it! It’s punishment for our sin. Don’t you know I remembered and replayed all my sin when heartache begin to strike? And don’t you know the enemy was happy to bring it up?
We may not understand the why but we can be assured that when bad things happen, God’s not punishing us. Through faith in Jesus Christ, our sins have been forgiven. And God promises that when he forgives, he chooses not to remember our sin. He’s not going to use our sin against us.
Remember this – Jesus never sinned. He was the perfect, sinless Son of God yet he suffered. If Jesus suffered, why would we think we would not?
