Monday Motivation #29 A Willing Participant
In 1 Kings 5, Solomon begins to make preparations to build the Temple to honor the name of the LORD. This was the temple that his father, King David had wanted to build but God said no. Even though God would not allow David to build the Temple, He promised David that his son, Solomon would build the Temple and we know God always keeps his promises. God had plans for David and God had plans for Solomon.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that “we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do”. Just as God had prepared Solomon to do the work He had planned in advance for him to do, he prepares us for the work he has planned for us.
We need to seek God first and be a willing participant in the plan He has for us. It may not be what we want or think we should be doing but God’s plans are perfect. As we are obedient to Him, we will find joy in the work and God will be honored.
1 Kings 5:3-5 New Living Translation (NLT)
3 “You know that my father, David, was not able to build a Temple to honor the name of the Lord his God because of the many wars waged against him by surrounding nations. He could not build until the Lord gave him victory over all his enemies. 4 But now the Lord my God has given me peace on every side; I have no enemies, and all is well. 5 So I am planning to build a Temple to honor the name of the Lord my God, just as he had instructed my father, David. For the Lord told him, ‘Your son, whom I will place on your throne, will build the Temple to honor my name.’
Ephesians 2:10 New International Version (NIV)
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
